Ronda Rousey professional background before WWE

Olympic bronze medalist in Judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics, Ronda Rousey first entered mixed-martial-arts in 2010, having previously fought in two rival UFC companies, King of the Cage and Strikeforce. This led to her eventual UFC debut in 2012.

Ronda Rousey became the first-ever female UFC Champion, which would turn into a two and a half year reign. She went on to become not just the biggest drawing (highest selling pay-per-view) female talent in UFC, but she was also one of the biggest draws full stop in the sport male or female.

Her trademark armbar submission and fast knockouts had fans buying in large numbers for Ronda Rousey, with north of 1 million buys per event she was featured on.

Ronda holds the UFC record for longest Women’s Bantamweight championship reign and also for being the first female in the UFC Hall of Fame.

Ronda Rousey joins WWE

Transitioning from UFC into WWE in 2018, Ronda Rousey became one of the faces of the entire company.

This was a big coup for WWE. They were not only getting a highly successful pay-per-view selling attraction, but someone who can get on the kind of television shows to promote WWE that none of its other talent can.

Before Ronda’s official WWE debut, she had actually attended many live wrestling events as a fan. She was seen front row with her friends at SummerSlam 2014, a fact also highlighted by the commentators wanting to focus on such celebrities attending WWE events.

In a WWE interview that night she was quoted when asked about moving into WWE as saying “You never know”.

Ronda also had a highlight moment whilst at ringside with The Rock at WrestleMania 31 in a planned segment while under a UFC contract.

The Ronda Rousey WWE figures produced by Mattel have been based on the following moments:

1. Ronda Rousey’s Official WWE debut

At Royal Rumble 2018, one of the companies biggest annual events, Ronda Rousey made her WWE debut appearing in an angle to setup.

This is the first-ever Ronda Rousey WWE figure. Usually it takes at least 12 months to produce a figure once the go ahead is given, but Mattel rushed through much faster to get this out before Christmas at select retailers.

2. Ronda Rousey WrestleMania Contract Signing

At WrestleMania 34, Ronda Rousey teamed with Kurt Angle to face two of the people who actually run the company: Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. The match was critically acclaimed, especially for being on the biggest show of the year and being her first match.

Ronda Rousey in her WrestleMania 34 entrance attire will be the first of a brand new series of WWE figures revealed entitled Ultimate Edition. The Ultimate’s feature added articulation, changeable heads and alternative ring gear and will be available from 2019.

Future Ronda Rousey WWE Figures

There are further Ronda Rousey figures to be announced. We shall have to wait and see which moments are captured next in action figure form.

At SummerSlam 2018, Ronda defeated Alexa Bliss to become the RAW Women’s Champion. At this time there has been no announcements, but with this being a career highlight, it would make perfect sense to produce an action figure for this moment.
